How we got started

Kelvin (Co-Founder), coming from his Journalistic background in the U.S. Navy and Andrew (Co-Founder), graduating with a B.A. in the Visual Arts while running an established Production Company prior, brought their experiences together and formed the alluring A1 Day1 Productions.

Raised partly in Charleston and Columbia, SC, I graduated from Dreher High School in May, 2005 and left for the U.S. Navy seven months later. After serving five years as a Mass Communication Specialist (I spent most of my time as a Photojournalist and Historical Documenter), I decided to move to Charlotte, N.C. to attend the Art Institute. Here, I realized a real love for Cinematography and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelors of Arts in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production.

Since then, I’ve been working as a Freelancer and I’m enjoying every step of the journey... well, the majority of steps...like 96.3%.

I’ve shot everything from small mom and pop businesses to bigger clients such as NBC, Disney, Coke, Lowes and Carolina Panthers. No matter the project, I have an ability to create a visual aesthetic that’ll make your media stand out from the rest.

At the end of the day, I enjoy how every shoot brings something new to the table, challenging me to grow through the experience.

Andrew J. Smith - Co-Founder, Editor

The Co-Founder and Editor of A1 Day1 Productions is Andrew Smith, who serves under the job title of Creative Director. Mr. Smith’s interest in the visual arts traces all the way back to his early childhood - with his mother (Donna G. Dixon) constantly pushing him towards his dream of gracing the silver screen. He would initially set out on a path towards being an actor, attending the renowned John Robert Powers acting school as a teenager. Mr. Smith then made the transition to behind the camera - where he would discover his true passion for filmmaking and film theory. After the passing of his mother back in 2017, Andrew refocused his energy on creativity, pushing himself to create a legacy that would some day measure up to the legacy of his mother.
